Commander Lena Sorensen stood at the viewport of Lunar Base Alpha, her eyes fixed on the blue marble of Earth hanging in the distance. The sight that once filled her with awe now brought a twinge of dread. Somewhere down there, her daughter was fighting for survival against an enemy no one fully understood.
The comm panel beside her chirped, shattering the silence. "Commander," came the voice of her XO. "The latest report from Earth has arrived. It's... it's not good."
Lena closed her eyes, allowing herself a moment of vulnerability before the mantle of command settled back onto her shoulders. "I'll be right there, Chen."
As she turned to leave, Lena cast one last glance at Earth. "Hold on," she whispered. "We're coming."
